Welcome to the exclusive food edition of the GEC Newsletter! If you do not eat a big bowl of pasta on a Saturday night in front of the TV, who are you really? While pasta, noodles, and all the carbs will forever give us comfort, we like to try new foods occasionally. We thought it would be a great idea to share the best restaurants in Vancouver (near your residence).

GEC Reviews

By Hazal
What is more Canadian than a good old donut? Nothing. While I appreciate the occasional grocery store chocolate, there is something about donuts… that I need to have one every week. *gasps* Welcome to this week’s review, in which I proudly announce, I FOUND THE BEST DONUT in Vancouver.

I have tried all the popular Donut Shops in Vancouver: Lee’s Donuts, Cartems Donuts, Honey Doughnuts & Goodies, and finally ended my quest to find the perfect donut at Breka Bakery. Breka is a 24/7 bakery with a lot of different locations in Vancouver and nearby our residences.

Ratings:

WINNER: Dulce De Leche – A masterpiece that combines a soft milky pudding like filling and tops it up with caramel candy pieces. The icing based outside of the donut is sweeter than the inside but once you bite into it, there is a wonderful balance in both worlds. This donut wins it for me—so unless I feel adventurous, this will be my regular order.

SECOND RUNNER: Cookies and Cream – A donut on the less sweet side, picturesque oreo toppings with a signature chocolate filling. The filling in this donut the best out of all; it is not overwhelmingly chocolate-y. It does not win though because the oreos are soft and wash away with the filling.  Sad.

THE DON’T TRY IT: Mango – Why on earth would anyone make a Mango donut? And why did I go and buy it? It resembles the taste of marmalade. Texture-wise, the cake feels overcooked. And, it doesn’t have chocolate either, so it doesn’t pass the test for me.

Meet GEC Team: Lise-Leasing Advisor

Lisé – Leasing Advisor

Meet the GEC Team

“Hello Everyone! My name is Lisé. I work as one of the leasing advisors for GEC for almost a year. What I like the most about GEC is how everyone is from around the world, and are able to connect and live together to learn about different cultures of one another. I was born in Japan and have spent my childhood in both Japan and U.S. Out of all the cities I have lived in, my favorite will always be Redondo Beach, CA.

I have been living in Vancouver for about 6 years now. I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a degree in Criminology, and I hope to work for the government one day. In my free time, I like to go biking, play tennis, doing anything outdoors and staying active!”

Foodie Newsletter Exclusive: Lisé says Tacofino is one of the best restaurants in Vancouver.
